They can be confusing!
The rules below are true for the vast majority of nouns; however, there are exceptions! In some cases, you just have to memorize the correct noun.
Nouns without an "s"
are non-count. Examples: water, beer, wine, money, cheese, oil, gas. |
Nouns with an "s"
are count. Examples: cars, books, dollars, pesos, reais, cups of water, cans of beer |

How many dollars do you have?
How much = non-count
